Album Review: Bad Cop/Bad Cop – Not Sorry

Not Sorry_500Californian 4-piece Bad Cop/Bad Cop have finally dropped their first full length album. After singing to Fat Wreck Chords in 2013 they released the four track EP Boss Lady last year and they have been turning heads with their no shits given attitude and infectiously catchy songs. Not to mention combined with a relentless approach to touring (20 straight hours in a van is impressive regardless who you are).

The girls tear right out of the gate with this release, after being greeted with “hello” sang in harmony, they dive right into the first track Nightmare. With a sound similar to label mates Masked Intruder, it strikes that perfect balance of relatable song-writing “I’m a nightmare/And you are my dream come true” and that cheesy sound that forces a grin. Who doesn’t love three part harmonies in punk songs?

With most songs not hitting the three minute mark, Bad Cop/Bad Cop feel like a modern Ramones, piling fast and short songs on top of another. The longest track on the album is Cheers, clocking in at four minutes and one second and it is an anthem for those currently finding themselves in that position of hating the guts out of someone. “Cheers/ Here’s to hoping/ I never see your face again”, straight forward and highly relatable,

Though the girls also avoid one of the biggest problems when releasing an album. Many bands find their sound and stick with that from start to finish leaving an album to blend together in what feels like one big track. With tracks like I’m Alright placed halfway through, it breaks the album up by slowing it down and keeping things interesting.

Not Sorry is full is a pretty solid album, it keeps itself from becoming repetitive, it’s largely relatable and with the combination of beefy guitars with the higher register that women are usually capable of, it melds together so well.

Expect big things from this band because they are stopping for no one.
