Mixtape Monday: LGBTQIA Pride

June is LGBTQIA Pride Month, and pride festivals, parades, and other events are in full swing all over the world. Pride Month is incredibly important to many members of the LGBTQIA community, because it is a time to celebrate the parts of us that the world often demeans and criticizes us for. It is also a time to remember the activists that have fought for us to be able to have the voice we have now, such as Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera (two trans women of color who took part in the Stonewall Riots), and Harvey Milk (the first openly gay person elected to public office in the US). In order to mark this auspicious occasion, we’ve created a Pride themed mixtape, featuring queer, transgender, and gender non-conforming artists. Representation in media, including music, is incredibly important for LGBTQIA people, and youth especially.

We would also like to take this time to express our love and support to those affected by the shooting in Orlando. This Pride Month is also about remembering the lives that were tragically cut short by homophobia and hatred. We stand with you.
