Marvel have dropped the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarök. Revealing the first plot points of what we can come to expect, as well as our first look at Cate Blanchett’s villainous Hela and Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster. That is not to say however, that it doesn’t raise quite several questions.
Namely, what is the fate of Mjölnir? What is Loki up to? And When can we see more of Jeff Goldblum? Biggest one however is how they got permission to use Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, but that’s not important right now.
This is not the Thor we are used to by a long shot. The Taika Waititi (What We Do in The Shadows) directed instalment features a much more retro looking space based adventure, that wouldn’t feel out of place being called Thor: Guardian of the Galaxy. Being the ideal time to start building that bridge between the Avengers universe of events and that of the Guardians as well as setting up Avengers: Infinity War, it’s a fitting move.
It appears we will also be treated to a bit of the planet Hulk storyline from 2006, in which the Hulk is put into gladiatorial combat. It seems like a safe bet that the Hulk vs Thor fights we saw in Avengers Assemble are going to look pretty tame in comparison to this. Thus far however, no information regarding Doctor Strange’s involvement in the story. Maybe the first theatrical trailer will shed some light on that.
Also everyone panicking over Thor’s new haircut can relax, Chris Hemsworth’s luscious locks will still make an appearance despite photos released last month.
Combining the new look with a score courtesy of Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, it seems like the Marvel franchise is going to experience a pretty drastic shake up. Time will only tell.
Thor: Ragnarök is out worldwide between October 25th and November 3rd
