Album Review: Tonight Alive – The Other Side

Tonight-Alive-‘The-Other-Side’-Cover-ArtworkOne thing that draws so many people to music is the connection they feel with it. This type of connection is unlike any other; it’s something that is hard to put into words and one that must be experienced to truly understand. The reasoning for someone’s personal link to a certain album, song, artist, or style of music could be based upon the time at which they heard the soft strum of that guitar, those unforgettable soaring vocals, or that one line that really resonated with some of their most important life experiences. Every music fan has a moment like this, and it is every song’s goal to provide someone, somewhere with that moment.

There are several albums that have sparked this type of moment for me. Each one came at a pivotal point in my life and represents that time in my mind. Tonight Alive’s new record, The Other Side, is my newest addition to that list. Continue reading Album Review: Tonight Alive – The Other Side

Album Review: July – What We Signed Up For

ImageProxyChances are the only time the noun ‘July’ is relevant is when it actually is that month. What’s not to love, though? Warm weather. No school. Vacations. Oh yeah, and North America’s biggest traveling circus known as the Vans Warped Tour is in full swing as its way around the United States and parts of Canada. However, when July ends, there is usually that slightly daunting realization that the summer is winding down and school will be here before you know it. Most people just want to relive those days over and over again.  Those nights are filled with party anthems and Brampton, Ontario’s July’s debut album What We Signed Up For will keep that summer party going all year long. Interview with Amends

Interview submitted by Crewys Lane // contributing writer

Amends are an alternative/experimental band from upstate New York who kept themselves busy during 2013. I had a chance to speak with Aj (vocals), Alex (drums), John (bass), and Brandon (guitar) and discuss their favorite moments of 2013 and their future plans as the new year rolls around.

What bands got you into playing music?
Aj: The biggest influence to why I’m doing what I do, as lame as it’ll be is the song “Saturday” by Fall Out Boy. It motivated me to learn how to do the cool part where Pete yells and when I was 12, that was the coolest thing in my book.
Alex: Type O Negative, Trapt, Pantera, and in my teen years early The Acacia Strain and Dream Theater
John: Bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains, and Black Sabbath. Stuff my dad listened to when i was younger.
Brandon: August Burns Red, as weird as that may be. Continue reading Interview with Amends
