Live Review: NOFX & Alkaline Trio – 02 Academy Leeds

For the second of two nights, the triple bill of US Punk Giants shook the roof of the 02 Academy in Leeds. With four of the most distinctive voices in punk, the UK crowds were in for one of the most anticipated punk tours in recent years.

Returning to the UK after their visit with fellow Fat Wreck Chords bands, The Flatliners and Western Addiction in March in support of their latest full length, Hang (See our stellar review right here). Opening the show with the A-Team theme tune played over the PA, the crowd was already thick and excited. Wasting no time, the boys launch into fan favourites such as After You My Friend and Falling Apart, during the latter, some fans came prepared throwing cigarettes at the stage after the line “Who’s got a smoke for the Caper”. Playing songs from their back catalogue whilst dropping four of their new tracks in the middle of their set.  Continue reading Live Review: NOFX & Alkaline Trio – 02 Academy Leeds

Live Review: Joey Cape and Dan Andriano – The Parish, Huddersfield

A UK exclusive gig, and a surprising one to say the least. Lagwagon’s front man healing a show in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire of all places. Supported by Alkaline Trio’s Dan Andriano and a last minute addition of drummer Derek Grant also playing a solo acoustic set. Along with West Yorkshire’s legendary Random Hand on their final ever tour and local band Mr. Shiraz.

Kicking off the evening were Mr. Shiraz who have undergone a big change in the past few years from playing ska music and supporting bands like The Aquabats in Leeds a year ago, to a much heavier hardcore sound. Ripping through a set with songs about Bill & Ted, John Cusack and The Breakfast Club, they packed in a solid number inside the tiny venue (literally a shed behind a bar). Despite a small technical difficulties such as a cymbal stand very nearly landing on front-man Mikey Shiraz. And a broken microphone cable, Shriaz got things even hot and sweatier than it already was on the hottest day of the year.  Continue reading Live Review: Joey Cape and Dan Andriano – The Parish, Huddersfield

Concert Review – Alkaline Trio at Nottingham Rock City

After the success of Alkaline Trio’s US tour with Bayside, they elected to bring them over to the UK. Which was heavily anticipated by the public judging by the near equal measure of Bayside and Alkaline Trio shirts worn to the show. Bringing along with them Scotland’s Murder Burgers to get the crowd into the punk spirit.  Continue reading Concert Review – Alkaline Trio at Nottingham Rock City
